News from the Board 3

News from the Board 3 – October 2016
This is the third in a series of updates about the development of plans for the new Club.
I am pleased to report that the project remains on course. The key dates in the timetable are 7th April next for the Club to have access for fitting out and 19th May for Practical Completion.
The steel frame of the Clubhouse is now virtually complete and the size of the building is evident. It is worth walking along Shap Road to see the full impact of the development, though as I write this, the road is restricted by temporary traffic lights while the services are being brought under the road. The block work for the grandstand terracing has started and the retaining walls around the artificial pitch are being prepared. The next phase involves lifting the pre-cast concrete sections for the grandstand and balcony into position.
We now have a small electricity sub-station just inside the main gate which will supply the new building. As previously reported on our website the electricity supply pole has been removed from the site and the area supply now passes through buried ducting to the new H-pole at the northern end of the site. The overhead cabling now spans the river a good distance from the Clubhouse.
An immense amount of work is being undertaken behind the scenes by Steve Whitehead, the Board and the Project Steering Group chaired by Robin Oram. We have to plan for every aspect of the new Club and phase the delivery of equipment and fittings to coincide with the Contractor’s timetable.
As a small example of the complexities of the task, we are currently confirming our suppliers of electricity, gas and telephone/internet services; negotiating with kitchen and servery suppliers, investigating the best type of scoreboard to purchase and deciding what sort of barrier/gates to have at the car park entrance.
All this in addition to monitoring the progress of the pitch construction and the building including the ‘finishes’ to the walls, flooring, bar design and fit out. We meet with Morbaine (Developer), Pinningtons (Main Contractor) and Mallinsons (Pitch Contractor) in formal meetings every 2 weeks. Whilst time consuming, these meetings allow the Club to ensure that the delivery of the specification is as expected and for us to review the development in detail.
As members will realise, if we request any changes to the original specification there are usually financial implications of additional costs outside the contract. We are carefully monitoring any cost variations and ensuring that they are essential and represent value for money for the Club.
As I have said before, we are determined that the traditions and proud heritage of KRUFC are not lost in the transfer to the new premises. The Board has asked Chris Hayton to form a group to review the memorabilia that we have within the Club and plan its transfer and display within the new Members’ Lounge. This in itself is a big task so if anyone wishes to offer their help then please contact Chris Hayton directly.
I hope this brief review gives some flavour of the amount of work being undertaken on behalf of the Club and I shall report again soon. As always, if Members have feedback or wish to make comments to the Board please let me know.
Kind regards,
Stephen Green
Chairman KRUFC
