Despite dominating much of the second half, the lead had only been extended by one Glen Wightman penalty with just over ten minutes to play, and there were fears on the touchline of another late reverse, with Vale keen to run the ball at every opportunity.

The threat was then extinguished with three tries in quick succession. Garry Holmes finishing off a forward rumble to the line, then two Vale handing errors and quick thinking from Kendal saw tries for captain James Gough, after Ben Leacock had gathered fumbled Vale ball, then Alistair Thompson, reacted quickly when Vale fumbled another pass breaking a tackle to score. Glen Wightman added the conversion.

Vale came back with a consultation try, to show the danger which had existed before the late flurry of points.
