The toughest game of the season so far

The Wasps welcomed league favourites Vagabonds to Mint Bridge for a sunny lunchtime kick off, the conditions ideal for the Wasps running brand of rugby. Both teams started the day unbeaten in the league so far.

After an error from the kick off, Vagabonds had a spell of pressure in the Kendal half with their strong pack taking it to the Kendal forwards.
The pressure was released when quick turnover ball allowed Vanessa Temple to break free and round the cover for an unconverted score.
Vagabonds continued to have the majority of the play and again turnover ball was to be their downfall, excellent kick chase from the Wasps gave Hayley Hodgson possession who put Nessa Temple away for a try with a great offload. The conversion added by Abby Bland giving the Wasps a 12 nil half time lead.

The Wasps really upped their game in the second half, with some excellent forward drives releasing the backs to use the full width of the pitch to score some excellent tries. A fifteen minute spell of pressure saw two further tries for Nessa Temple, an excellent try from Hayley Hodgson and a drive over from close range for Emma Grunnill.

Vagabonds managed to score three tries of their own in the second half bringing the full time score to 32-19.

Laura Mason was named forward of the match and Naomi Boorman named back of the match. Special mentions go to Nessa Temple who now has 14 tries in four games and also Hayley Fleming who played on despite fracturing her foot!

The toughest game of the season so far but the Wasps remain unbeaten, plenty of improvements still to come from this team with new players looking better every week.

The next league game is away to Leigh on the 23rd November with a friendly game at Eccles on Sunday.
