On tour for the away win...

This is a strong side looking for its second league double, after a convincing home 22-0 win
- James Mackereth

After the Christmas and New Year break and surviving some tough (and cold!) training sessions, the Wasps are back in action this weekend on Sunday 8th January. They make the journey south to the Wirral to face Birkenhead Park Ladies. When these teams last met at Mint Bridge in October last year, the home team were victorious by 22 unanswered points!
Forwards
A front row reshuffle sees Hayley Fleming returning from injury to start at tight head and Emma Grunnill returns to the second row in place of the unavailable Mary Stansfield.
Back Row
Amy Beard resumes the Number 8 position.
Half-backs
Unchanged from the Sunderland match.
Three-quarters
A midfield re-jig sees Sarah Wilkinson return at Centre, joined by Michelle Larkin to re-create the combination that finished the Sunderland game. Rowan Boardley joins the back line this week, replacing the unavailable Emily Elshaw and five try star Hayley Hodgson graces the full-back role.
Replacements
Anna Waite looks to build on an encouraging outing against Sunderland from the bench, where she is joined by Elen Gwen Williams, making her first appearance after injury since a star performance in the Birkenhead Park fixture at home.
Coach James Mackereth’s Viewpoint:
“I thought we were excellent against Sunderland, particularly the first 20 minutes when we dominated the breakdown, imposed ourselves on the game from minute one and nullified their biggest weapon. We're starting to manage games well too, once Sunderland came back into the game (after we let them in on the back of a few little mistakes) we killed them off quickly. Set pieces and set plays are starting to work too… encouraging stuff going into the second half of the season.”

Next Home Game: See the Wasps in action v Carlisle at Mint Bridge next Sunday 15 January, 2pm
