The last two seasons have seen very close finishes in the games at Mint Bridge against this weekend’s visitors Widnes, with victory only being sealed in injury time.
Last season Kendal seemed to be coasting at 12v0 with twenty minutes to play, only for Widnes to hit back with two late tries, needing a conversion to win. It failed and Kendal came straight back with a late Glenn Weightman penalty to snatch victory.
The season before it had been a much more even game throughout, with the lead changing hands six times, but it appeared Widnes had the spoils with a nine point lead with ten minutes to play. An Andrew Boardley penalty shortly before fulltime appeared to have secured a losing bonus point, but a try by Reece Tomlinson, five minutes into injury time, was converted by substitute Boardley for an unlikely victory.
After being one of the pace setters in the previous two seasons, Widnes have not had a good start to this season, so will be keen to kick start it on Saturday.
In the Kendal team, Richard Harryman makes a first start of the season with Jack Lashley coming in on the bench. Chris Downham returns in the backrow for Matty Houghton, whilst Nathan Wooff comes in at full back for Chris Park. Newcomer Jack Morphet starts on the bench, with Mark Carruthers
