Back at Mint Bridge after three weeks off, with a blank Saturday, followed by last weekend’s late postponement.
Last Saturday whilst our game at Morley was called off, just five miles away this weekend’s visitors were playing Doncaster Phoenix. A Phoenix’s victory saw them move out of the relegation places at the expense of Morley, and within two points of Cleckheaton. So just three points separate the three teams, with Morley having their game in hand against us, so Cleckheaton will be desperate for a good display.
The away game was a 15v25 Kendal win, but it was a very close encounter, and Cleckheaton looked a well organised team, and deservedly led at half time, before a bit of Glen Weightman skill and a Danny Barker try started by Dini Noyo, saw Kendal home.
Cleckheaton’s results have been a bit erratic including a bonus point win at Billingham and a two point loss against Rossendale, but most of their points come from the teams around them at the wrong end of the table.
Whilst we sit ten points behind Billingham, and eight ahead of Lymm, with a game in hand over both, there is still plenty to play for. Billingham have to come to Mint Bridge (in what will probably be the last First XV fixture there), and have an almost identical run in, playing the same teams, but at the opposite venue. The bad news is our game in hand over them is away against third place Hull (just two losses in thirteen games, and those were against the top two, with only one other point dropped – against today’s visitors)
TEAM : Despite the lack of a game last week there are changes to the starting line up from the team announced. Chris Park returns at fullback, with Damian Armstrong moving into the centre to join Danny Barker. In the forwards Liam Hayton is back in the second row, with Joe Robinson and Blake Robinson joining Chris Downham in the back row. James Thompson moves to the bench with Robbie Collinson and Mark Carruthers joining him.
The game sees Joe Robinson’s makes his first appearance since May 2011, whilst Kris Bratton make his first start, since a year later.
WEATHER : No suggestion in the forecast of any problems, but could be wet for kick off.
