Carlisle 2nd XV 5 Kendal Development XV 29
Kendal 2nd XV travelled to Carlisle to be met with conditions akin to mud wrestling - it was awful!
Kendal started the better, and from Carlisle's poor kick off, won the scrum, and Josh Chaplow (the black & amber No.8) picked up and charged half the pitch to score in the first minute: 0 - 5.
After only six minutes, the Kendal forwards made down the field, and Dan Boardley broke through to score the second touchdown: 0 - 10.
Lack of concentration and discipline allowed Carlisle to pull the score back when their full back slid in for the home team's first try: 5 - 10.
Kendal composed themselves as conditions deteriorated underfoot.
After 35 minutes play, good work from the backs allowed full back Sean Garnett to score near the posts, allowing Nathan Wooff to add the conversion: 5 - 17.
With Carlisle heads down, on the stroke of half time, Nathan Wooff followed his own kick through to slide over for Kendal's fourth try, adding a simple conversion, to give Kendal a deserved half time lead of 5 - 24.
The second half started with Carlisle attacking the Black & Ambers line, but strong defence held firm, and the game ebbed and flowed from one end of the pitch to the other, even though conditions were deteriorating.
After 55 minutes' play, Kendal's backs moved the ball out to Tony Bingham on the wing. The flying winger careered his way through, to slide his way over to make it 5 - 29 to Kendal.
After 70 minutes' of play the referee, due to the badly deteriorating conditions, blew his whistle for "no side", for the two exhausted sides to stagger off the pitch.
The only sour moment from a Kendal coach point of view was that Bradley Jackson, the Senior Colts' winger. broke his nose during the game.
