Senior Colts-Under 15's

Happy new year dear reader!

Yes indeed, sorry to depress you, but this old waffle has been spared ( for the time being anyway )so onwards with the oddiety that is the senior colts section, and the rest of their chums at the club and around and about!

Firstly we remain unbeaten in 2014!! Mainly due to the fact that the first 2 games have been called off, due to the lovely weather we've been experiencing, and some technical problems also, but i've decided to keep you upto date anyway.

Training has recommenced on it's normal tuesday evening slot. Young coach theo put the troops through it's paces on the tremendous "development" pitch, whilst perie went round looking for spuds and attempting not to drown. Strangley a new hero was found in mike, a lovely young chap who looks like a handy back 3 player and he's a very welcome addition indeed! Sadly for perie he couldn't find any front 5 players anywhere in the troughs, but he'll try again next week! Thursday with the senior chums saw several of the colts join their chums in training, and as ever many thanks to our senior sections, and the coaches. Bizzarely dor whitehead showed some tremendous thinking man characteristics by staying inside to avoid trench foot! He really is a man for all seasons reader, but still managed to accuse perie of ball theft, before giving him a hug! What a splendid director of rugby he is!

Section fav dane "dave dan doris blenky blinky" blenkharn was selected to help out his chums in the second team, in his first game of senior rugby, and by all accounts he was as impressive as ever, but again played in the centre (dave me thinks it'll be a while until you appear at openside!). And bradders also answered a question, what question, you have as much idea as i dear reader!

Missing his rugby matches the rotund buffoon perie had a potter down to mint bridge on saturday dinnertime, to see if the lovely gill would feed him before he could cheer on his senior chums (but mainly to get fed!). On arrival he bumped into his old friend, and top bloke, and ex team mate dean barker, who was there with his under 15's outfit, a new set of club heros about to play their first game against old club friends hawcourt park! A moment of glee to see a new youth rugby side, his old friend, and a foreign object in the sky (the sun), and also the fact he couldn't think of any excuse to get out of it saw him put on his boots and grab his whistle to battle his old foe (exercise) and referee the game. It was a really hard fought battle between the two sides.

Kendal started brightly with the forwards looking very well drilled, and marshelled excellently via their captain at scrum half, but the hawcourt defence was excellent, and their backs, especially looked dangerous with the ball, but in a mirror image the kendal defence was excellent also. After a quarter of the game, several phases of kendal play saw the opposition killing the ball, and an excellent kick saw kendal take a 3 - 0 lead. Again more excellent play, belying the "scratch side" put together for the day, saw kendal continue to put the opposition under pressure, and just before half time an excellent spell of play saw the kendal left wing reach for the line, only for ref perie to disallow for a knock on ( nobody knows how he saw this, as he was nearer the half way line than the tryline!). The second half saw hawcourt begin with plenty of pressure, and good handling from both forwards and backs saw their speedy full back cross the line, with the extra points dispatched also to see them take the lead. Great credit must go to the kendal side, as it would have been really easy to throw in the towel, but they managed to weather the storm, and start to get back incontrol of the game. The final 10 mins of the game saw 3 great kendal tries, 2 converted, and plenty of ref perie's famous scrummages so he could get a breather, before the final whistle and a 22 - 7 victory. It's really difficult to single out players from the kendal outfit, but the number 8, and scrum half looked like really good players, but there was lots of great potentional in both the backs and forwards, and the future of the club looks in great hands with these young chaps! And cumbrian rugby itself with the hawcourt team being full of potentional also. It was a great game, technically well above what should be expected of under 15s rugby, and all involved seemed to enjoy it, with lots of positive play, and also a great spirit, and nobody complained about the awful ref miles behind play. So cheers lads you should be proud of yourselves. . . All the best for the rest of the season!

As ever a few thanks to be given out. My senior chums for putting up with me whist i had a "lancaster lemonade", fatha, pete and nige for the company. Paddy, ali and browny for yet again admitting to read this (you should know better), tony dixon (quality building work at a reasonable price) yes you've now been named and shamed for admitting to reading this also! Mike and gill, stacy, karen and steph, all senior sections, the ladies section (next home game 2nd feb 2pm ko). Mr m jackson, and ian "saint" thompson for the sponsorship, admiral john uttley of the mighty sbs, our sections principle sponsor, as he is for many sections of the club (it really is appreciated john), and finally you dear reader for reading this, though you may have given up before getting this far!

Til next time, be well, be safe and remember to take out a waterproof with you.

Cheers

Arth
