International History

AuldCutta Cup Fest

That was the day that was, nailed in the history books as the first ever international walking rugby match between England & Scotland and the main rugby event of the weekend.

The Kendal Auld Greys hosted a walking rugby fest with the Midlothian Uncoachables on a windy day in Kendal, but as is the norm, it didn’t rain while we were playing.

The afternoon started with lunch, mass warm ups, mixed round robins a tea break and then the two 7 asides in the “Cup matches”. The games were competitive, with some excellent skills and from the Uncoachables, excellent defensive disciplines. Kendal took the lead, went behind to go 2-1 down but got the match back to 2-2.

The record partisan crowd, joined in with Mexican waves and exercises to keep out the cold.
The second match was also keenly contested with a game that was a little more free flowing that the first but that again ended in a draw.

The afternoon ended with hot pies, plenty of cake and a watch of the side show match from Murrayfield

It was great to host and entertain our visitors from Scotland and we plan to do a return trip Well done and a big thank you to all from both sides of the border that made this possible.
