The Wasps return to action with a trip to Manchester this Sunday 10 September for the opening skirmish of their league season

A rock solid pack, a super quick backline with skills to match, this could be quite the game!
- James Mackereth

As the final fixture of last season, a patched up and depleted Wasps team were well beaten away at Manchester on Mothering Sunday.
A new look side hopes to turn the tables on the hosts this time round, as the Wasps have been recruiting well over the summer, naming a strong side.
Forwards
Kerry Stevens, Aimee Rose Sharp and Anna Waite continue in the front row, an area of huge success last season. Samara Tomlinson was a revelation last season, and is joined in the second row by the impressive debutant Amy Butler.
Back Row
Amy Beard moves to the blindside in her final wasps game before she moves to Australia, and is joined by debutant Lauren Harkness on the open side, with another player on her wasps debut, Amy-Louise Orrow at number 8.
Half-backs
Cath Sewell and Fleur Stanton continue to impress in the half backs after both represented the county in their club positions last season
Three-quarters
A midfield reshuffle sees Rowan Boardley and Chelsea Clarkson paired together in a rapid quick centre pairing. Emma Rowlinson returns to the wing, a position that saw her score perhaps the try of the season, and she is joined in the back 3 by the rapidly improving Sophie Little and the dangerous Hayley Hodgson at full back.
Replacements
Zoe Dixon, who has benefited greatly from some outstanding performances on the recent Ireland trip and the impressive Sarah Jayne Muncaster are joined on the bench by the exciting Holly Howard, who is set to be the first Wasp to play under the recent dispensation rule. Joining the bench as a debutant Wasp is Lindsey Kendall another player with great promise, who already looks like another great asset to the back five positions in the scrum.
Coach James Mackereth’s Viewpoint:
“So this is what all the hard work has been about, the league season is finally here and I can't wait to see how we go. I'm sad we are losing Amy Beard, she's a first class player who's been a great servant to this team and this club, and I really do wish Amy all the very best in her adventure down under. We're very lucky to be gaining Amy Orrow in our squad, she is simply a top drawer player with some supreme ability and a first class attitude, and she will be so important in helping this new side learn the game. I'm delighted for those making their full debuts, I think Lauren Harkness, Holly Howard and Amy Butler all look born to play rugby, and I can't wait to see the girls go on Sunday. A rock solid pack, a super quick backline with skills to match, this could be quite the game!
Fingers crossed for a decent game and if the weather holds up then this will be a tremendous fixture.”
