After a late change in opponents Kendal 3rds social team play their 1st game

Kendal 3rd's Social team played their 1st full fixture against a well organised Penrith side who stepped in last minute.

The Kendal squad made up of colts, ex colts (yet to make a senior debut), Veteran players from the past and topped up by a few 2nd team players, took on a well organised Penrith squad. Kendal dominated at scrum helped by the experience of Craig Hine at Hooker, Tom Moulton and Geordie Alex propping him up. This continues into the 2nd half when Arthur Perie, Perry Curtis and Dan Reid made the swap to refresh things. The scrum provided a good attacking platform backs to play with.

After a generating some early pressure Kendal found themselves behind from a Penrith breakaway try, Kendal replied straight away with some good strong running from the likes of Cieran the train Ward and Rob Quarry created the opportunity for Paddy Wilson (standing in at fly half) to take advantage of a big gap before feeding Jack Gater to run in for Kendal's 1st try. Unfortunately Wilson didn't have enough length to convert.

Kendal Kept pressure throughout the 1st half but the loss of talismanic skipper Italian Ross due to a knee injury and ex 1st team VETS Nick Michelini due to lack of oxygen unsettled things a little and saw Penrith break away with youth speed and fitness later on in the half.

into the 2nd half Kendal began by camping into the Penrith half James Mackereth was denied when reaching out to score. The video replay suggested that it was a try. As the rust was beginning to go the back line got looked more threatening, Fullback Jacob Dyer, wings Brad Jackson and Jay Barrow linked up to what looked like a try scoring opportunity although this was snuffed out by the defence.
as some more changes were made Ward was replaced by the Brad Askam in a like for like exchange.

As the game went on Kendal got more organisation in defence Jackson and Barrow both making outrageous try saving tackles and Tyler Newell throwing his weight around and not missing a tackle all day. A tough afternoon finished with another Kendal attack which saw "Young lad 1" Nick Carlton run an outstanding line to penetrate the Penrith defence and go over to finish a good attack, Wilson converted. Carlton had an strong game showing off a ball skills and was solid in defence.
Although the result wasn't the one Kendal would have wanted there are many positives to be taken from the day.
1. A lot of lads represented the club for the 1st time this season (some for the first time)
2. There was a lot of rust and cobwebs left at Winters park from the outing (I'm sure they will blow away from there too)

A massive thanks to all the lads who played.
The next game is scheduled for the 9th April at home anyone wanting to get involved in the social team please contact garryholmes@rfu.com
