Every single U9 registered Hornet turned out to welcome Penrith for a cracking morning of Rugby.

Great effort this Sunday - well done. (note - the pitch was not quite as sloped as the picture to the right suggests...)

Penrith visited the Nest with 9 players. All 20 registered U9 Hornets turned up keen to play.

To give everyone equal match time we split into 3 teams with each team playing Penrith once as well as the other Hornet teams:

* Charlie (capt) Barney, James, Daniel, Jack H, Nathan
* William (capt), Aaron, Max, Eddie, Jo G, Luke M, Jo M
* Oliver (capt), Robbie, Reece, Oliver, Luke D, Elliot, Jack G, Travis

Commitment and good rugby was on show from the start.

Defensively we were strong in all 3 matches and it was good to see the hard work and learning from training applied to a match.

Penrith were a well organised team and their quick lines reduced the time our players had to make decisions. So, a steep learning curve from which players had to adapt and think on their feet. An important rugby lesson!

It was great to see decision making in action. Some players used strong, direct running to break the defensive line. Some used the long pass to open out space. Others scanned the pitch to direct their running and look for opportunities and the right pass.

The final result: we drew one match and lost two.

A big thank you to the support from the touchline - it was great to hear Hornet support getting involved and applauding the rugby from both teams.

Thanks to Penrith players and their coaching team for helping make the morning such a success. It won't be long before we head up the M6 for the rematch!

Players, well done this week. Everyone can take success from the game - a strong tackle, an offload, a pass to free up a team mate, a side step or swerve, or perhaps a try scoring run.

James S won player of the week. And deservedly so - an all round great performance: strong in tackle, game awareness and some really strong committed running. Well done James!

Good luck next week against Preston. Unfortunately Will and I can't be with you, but we look forward to hearing all about it. Go Hornets.

Cheers,

Coach Andrew.
