Match Report: Sun 11th February 2018

This week’s game against Preston Grasshoppers was dominated by good teamwork and excellent attacking play by both sides, which led to four very closely contested high scoring matches. It was great to see that on the attacking side, the skill set from both teams was exceptionally high, with very few errors made – there was good slick passing and offloading to be seen, with very few dropped balls or knock-ons, all the more impressive on a bitterly cold morning.
From Kendal’s point of view; it was really pleasing to see the improvement in teamwork, with every player making significant contributions and supporting each other well. The players got into good positions, both in attack and defence, we now just need to work more on making sure we complete our tackles, and bringing the opposition to the floor.

This week’s Player of the week was a tough decision. There were several players this week that put in particularly impressive performances. Harris W, made some excellent attacking runs and defended well, Ben O scored a handful of tries, Alfie T was all over the park, as was Jake B and Iestyn and Willow was fearless in defence, regularly taken down their stronger runners; but on a day when everyone played well and gelled as a team, the award went to Tristan J, who showed outstanding technique when tackling which is why he was probably the only player from both sides to not miss a tackle all morning – well done Tristan.

One final note; all four of the Grasshopper coaches could not speak highly enough of the spirit in which all the games were played, and the enjoyment that both they and their players had gotten from the morning, so very well done to all our young Hornets for continuing to represent your club so well.
