Lots of smiles from both groups of players

Sunday 6th October saw Kendal Hornets U10’s playing our first ever fixture and it was a pleasure to welcome Upper Eden U10’s to the Hornets Nest.

We had over 20 players on the day to take part in the fixture and additional training and we faced off against the 8 players from UE. The coaching team set up a system on the day that ensured that all of the registered players got even game time, plus the opportunity to get some additional training, without the players from UE getting exhausted.

From the referees perspective, it was a pleasure to be involved. All of the players were keen to play rugby ‘properly’ and took to the new U10 rules with great aplomb. It was a hard, physical mornings rugby and due to the excellant way that the players carried themselves, we remained injury free.

We were a bit restricted for space on Sunday, but from the games that were played, the future looks bright for both UE and the Hornets. Of particular note was a meanness that The Viking had previously kept well hidden, Bobster showing a great change of direction, The Rock delivering tackle after tackle, Snowplough forcing the opposition backwards, White Shadows direct approach making good yards, Mr Noodles getting his speed going, Freerunner finding some good space and delivering an AshSplash, Ninja doing all that sneaky stuff and reappearing with the ball, Beast & Ironman making hard yards AND hard tackles, Amzo, Black Rhino & Gregor taking their first game easily in their stride, Evan was the Man In Black who repeatedly took the ball into contact, Viper & Eagle always in support and being a nuisance to UE all morning, Cena (despite grumbling that he’d hardly had the ball !) ran and tackled like a demon & the Silent Assaasin did exactly as his name suggested.

But just as importantly, we had Special K, Lightning, Dynamo & Reece who all came down, despite being unable to play in the fixture, to cheer their teammates on. 10/10 guys.

It takes 2 sides to make up a fixture and the players, parents and coaches from UE made it a great mornings rugby. On a small pitch, that was quite congested the teams delivered up a try fest, with the Hornets coming out slightly on top by 14 tries to 12.

Lots of good things to reflect on whilst we look forwards to our next fixture away at Carlisle on Sunday 13th at 10.30. As ever, all players who are registered with the Club will be welcome to play and all will get equal game time.

See you all on Sunday

p.s the results for Players Player of the Week are in and its a joint winners this week. Congratulations tn Ninja (Toby) and White Shadow (Tom)
