U10 Rugby in December – wonderful stuff

The weather gods have been kind to us this season and once again, the U10 Hornets go the opportunity to put there newly found rugby skills to the test.

Todays opposition was a very experienced and well drilled team from Penrith. As we had 28 registered players (& 4 unregistered players) available today, we split down into 3 groups, so that 1 group could play against Penrith, whilst the other 2 groups got to work on their skills.

As ever, we ensured that every player played and every player got equal game time – and from todays experience, it’s a policy that is really working.

In terms of tries scored, Penrith came out well and truly on top, but if tries were awarded for effort, then in would have been a very close contest indeed. Lots and lots of good things to talk about. It’s impossible to name every player who made a positive contribution to todays game, so I’ve picked 4 (I could have picked 24).

Bobcat had his best ever game for the Hornets. He repeatedly found (& created !) space and made a LOT of yards towards the Penrith tryline. Snowplough took the ball all the way from the halfway line and kept his legs driving like a steam engine, until he was help up just inches from the line – but he cleverly popped the ball back for a team mate to drop over the line and score the try. The Rock tackled everything that moved and in some instances performed Double Tackles. Great commitment and effort. Lightning put a phenomenal amount of effort in today – if rugby was a school exam, he would have got an A*+.

Our team has been together for 3 months and we are playing against teams that have been together for over 3 years. Today was another huge step forward and as well as having an enjoyable mornings rugby with our mates, we’ve also learnt new skills. Allied to these skills is a postive attitude and an effort level that is increasing on a weekly basis.

Next week we have a fixture away at Preston Grasshoppers and its an opportunity to learn some more about the game. Teamwork and effort are quickly becoming the things that define the U10’s and those are excellent attributes to have. The other stuff, we’re picking up just fine.

The players Player of the Week this week was Ninja. Richly deserved for the massive amount of effort, particularly in the 'ripping' department that was put in today. Also worthy of a mention are your 8 teammates who also rec'd nominations - a great team effoet gents.

Paul

p.s a special Mention In Dispatches goes to Noodles. Despite a boken collarbone, he performed valliantly as Team Manager. 10/10 Ben.
