With the disappointment of last week’s cancelled Carlisle match behind them, the Wasps have trained hard preparing for a tough away match this weekend

This season’s home fixture v Darlington in October was a difficult one, as the Wasps were beaten 12 – 32 by a compact, well drilled unit who dictated the game from minute one. Turn the clock forward to this weekend though and the ladies are well up for reversing that last outcome, after enduring two gruelling training sessions mid-week!

Sunday’s line-up features a few tactical changes to the side that was due to start against Carlisle. A full session of contact rugby on Monday night and a quality, tactical run through on Thursday night demonstrated that there could be fireworks on Sunday!

Forwards
The front row of Kerry Stevens, Hayley Fleming and Anna Waite is unchanged and is starting to look and feel like a settled, cohesive unit, whilst Samara Tomlinson drops back into the second row and is joined by Bronte Dixon

Back Row
The back row sees the Canadian legend Rachelle Malette available for a guest appearance on the blind side, joined in the back row by the sibling partnership of Hannah and Amy Beard

Half-backs
Cath Sewell and Fleur Stanton continue their proven half back pairing

Three-quarters
Michelle Larkin and Sarah Wilkinson resume in the centres, with the major change to the line-up seeing Emma Rowlinson move to the backline on the left wing, joining right wing Rowan Boardley and full back Hayley Hodgson

Coach James Mackereth’s Viewpoint:
“This team exudes quality and defensively looks as solid as they come. The pack is full of destructive carriers and Hannah and Rachelle perched menacingly on the flanks gives us real focus and intensity at the breakdown and no shortage of aggression either!! The back line has an abundance of pace and skill, but with Emma starting out wide, we look very direct going forward and very solid in defence. The contact session on Monday was very pleasing and there are some real big hitters in this side who will turn a lot of heads as the second half of the season comes around. Excited for Sunday, looking forward to this one.”
