Match report by Nigel Pearson for yesterday's U17 Colts HOME WIN v West Park RUFC:
Today's home game against West Park was a chance for Kendal to run the festive delights out of their system and get back to winning ways in the Halbro Sportswear Colts league.
Kendal started the game well attacking the Shap Road end, but every time they looked as though they were about to score, there was a simple error and Kendal had to rebuild again.
Half way through the first period, Kendal pounced on a West park mistake and Young Will Coxon raced through for an unconverted try 5 - 0. From the restart there were several mistakes from both sides and Kendal appeared to start tiring. But against the odds Kendal put pressure on the West Park try line and after several scrums for being held up, it was Owen Singleton who touched down for a converted try by Will Coxon 12 - 0.
Just before half time, West park were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and chose to convert, for a half time score of 12 - 3.
After the turn around, it was Kendal who were put under pressure, which resulted in West Park scoring an unconverted try 12 - 8. Kendal seemed to dig deep and fined that extra bit of energy required to see off worthy opponents West Park. With the ball getting delivered to the fly-half from a ruck just inside the West Park 22, he popped the ball up to Nathan Wilson, who was cutting a beautiful line from the wing, bursting through several tackles to score a nice little try under the posts, converted by Owen Singleton 19 - 8. Kendal withheld a final flourish by West Park to hold on for a much deserved win.
Well done fellas, let's keep it going next week...
