Kendal 33 Altrincham Kersal 7
The first try was scored after only three minutes when Matty Houghton dashed down the left wing and passed inside to Jack Lashley, backing up well, who scored the first try. Chris Park missed the conversion from the touchline.
After twelve minutes , another excellent try was scored on the opposite wing after fine passing from left to right saw ]Mark Carruthers[ dash over in the corner for the second try, followed by a neat conversion from near touch by Chris Park: 13-0.
There was more running by Kendal's backs, but the finishing was erratic , and there no more tries before the interval.
After ten minutes of the second half, Chris Downham limped off to be replaced by James Thompson
I suspect our director of Rugby had strengthened the handling to be improved at half time, and this duly happened.
Ben Leacock followed Thommo off the bench, and chased his work rate in the line outs and loose play.
Matty Houghton scored the next try in the left corner, 21 - 0
But the next try was definitely the peach of the game as the Cheshire lads were ripped to pieces with superb handling, before Mark Carruthers gaining the touchdown. 28 - 0, one of the best of the season.
Perhaps the peddle was eased, as Altrincham came back into the game. Jack Snoddy (15), who had a fine game in attack & defence, came into attack and gave a fine dummy to draw one of our backs, and score a fine try converted by his captain, Chris Yates, and the opposition showed some fine hands in the last ten minutes, but it was too late.
Steve Whitehead was well pleased with the display of all 18 of the squad throughout the game,. particularly in the second half. With Dini moving the ball at scrum half, the wingers saw plenty of ball, and six fine tries were scored. On occasions, the passing was brilliant, with Jack Lashley outstanding in the forwards. When Tommo came on, he made three barnstorming runs, Ben Leacock was back to his fine form of last season, Glenn Chesher was getting back to his form of old now that his fitness has improved, and Dan Boardley thoroughly enjoyed himself too.
With five lads missing, it was good to see such a high standard.
It will be a pleasure to see the same standard against Wilmslow in a fortnight in the big game of the season against the top of the table, who are winning most of their games with a lot of points being scored against their opposition.
