Kendal Development XV 43 - Penrith 2nd XV 0
Penrith turned out a young second team, which battled with great courage, but subsided towards the end when the mud dried out , and the black and ambers improved their handling.
Towards the start, Kendal started to attack towards the clubhouse end. A close attack was foiled by sturdy tackling by the green & whites, but a simple penalty opened the scoring after six minutes from a close penalty goal - 3-0. (Mark Carruthers)
Soon after, Gary Holmes charged down the left wing, and passed inside to Matt Houghton who slid over for the first try.: 8-0.

Jack Lashley was damaged round his hip soon after, and was replaced by James Mackereth who valiantly played at prop for the rest of the game.
Dan White soon after , with his first game of the season, won a line out on the half way and burst through to put Matty Houghton for his second try in the right corner, but the conversion was missed again: 13-0.

Mark Cottam scored the third try in the corner jusing the slope to the corner. 18-0.

Rob Wightman won a line out and put Dan White through a gap to the tryline just before half time:23-0.

In the second period, all the replacements were given a decent run out.David Jackson played at hooker and replaced Matty Houghton who replaced a limping Jordan Johnson at scrum half.

James Thompson popped up for one touch down from close in, then David Greenwood dashed over from scrum half position in a fifteen metre dash close to the line. 43-0.
Haydn Holmes, nephew of Garry Holmes, also had a run out on the wing.
Joshua Coyle and Shannon Perry, our friends from New Zealand, are starting to enjoy the rugby in Cumbria now that they are starting to get fit, after their holiday for the Rugby World Cup. I hope they enjoy their Christmas in Cumbria too.

This was an improving second half, as the confidence grew in a drier ball, though the kicking for goal was a little askew.
