The first ten minutes set the tone for the game; with quick interplay by the Kendal forwards allowing good ground to be made to allow Jake Chaplow to cross for the first try, which was cancelled out soon after by a try for Stockport after making good ground through domination at the set piece; hardly surprising given that the Kendal front row had veterans James Mackereth and Danny Airey both playing out of position!
Kendal adapted their game plan well following the early exchanges and good interplay between forwards and backs allowed debutant Colts player Sam Coleman to score out on the left wing mid-way through the first half to give Kendal a 7-12 lead, which was extended to 7-19 ten minutes later with a try from Josh Chaplow. Stockport narrowed the gap to 14-19 on the stroke of half time and closed to 17-19 following a penalty soon after half time, an infringement that led to a yellow card for Josh Chaplow. The 14 men of Kendal rallied from the kick off and sustained pressure eventually allowed Xavier Tomlinson to burst through several tackles to score under the posts for a 17-26 score line. With 20 minutes remaining Stockport came back again and scored out wide to narrow the score to 22-26. Kendal, who had looked the better side throughout, gave themselves some deserved breathing space for the final ten minutes following another typical Josh Chaplow barnstorming run and score under the posts, to allow Nathan Woof to knock over his fourth conversion for a final score of 22-33. Man of the match went to Dan Reid with some very strong carries and several important turnovers at key times, two of which led to Kendal tries.
