Much improved performance

A much changed team, with the addition of more experience in the forwards and backs and more good communicators allowed for a vastly improved performance from the Kendal 2s squad.
The initial game plan of moving the ball wide to tire out a heavy Vale pack and take advantage of a mobile Kendal back row had to be altered slightly with frequent downpours making handling much more difficult. The Kendal pack adapted well to these conditions and made good yards with strong carries from all of the front 5 and ball secured well by the back row. The new centre partnership of Dave Buchan and Anthony Gage were also able to make good gains when Dan Lowther took control of the game. Vale opted to kick a lot of ball away when the conditions were tricky and the back 3 for Kendal were all excellent under the high ball and ran it back well.
The first 2 scores of the match came from the boot of Dan Lowther in the 8th and 15th mins as Vale were caught offside from quick phase play by the Kendal pack. The first try of the match came on 31 mins following another offside penalty by Vale on their 5 metre line; Dan Lowther took a quick tap and passed to Josh Chaplow to crash over. Looking to hit back quick, Vale enjoyed a good period of possession but with an overlap available on the left wing, Liam Oldham saw the danger to nip in for an intercept and race away from the half way line to score next to the posts which was converted by Lowther. Shortly after Vale had a player sin binned for back chat and the resulting penalty was kicked to the corner and a well drilled maul from 10 metres out allowed Dane Blenkharn to crash over with considerable help from Dan Reid.
Half time score Vale 0 - 23 Kendal.
Vale got the first score of the second half, on 46 minutes from a 5metre line out with Kendal not contesting to try and prevent a maul the Vale lock was able to stroll over untouched although he may have come from an illegal position.
Kendal then enjoyed another period of good possession with Dan Lowther winning the kicking duels and keeping the game in the Vale half. On 60mins as Vale tried to run a kick out of their 22, the ball went to ground under strong pressure from the Kendal back line and Anthony Gage picked up the loose ball and ran in from the 22 to score which was converted for a 30-5 lead. Vale finished the scoring with a questionable penalty try for a high tackle on 64 mins and although they had the majority of the attack for the final 15 mins, Kendal defending well keep the final score as Vale 12 - 30 Kendal. Man of the match went to Shaun Tipping who was excellent in both attack and defence.
