Carlisle have strong win against a weakened Development XV

Another strangely unseasonal day saw the development xv at home against Carlisle.
from the outset Kendal flew in to action, but resolute defending from the opposition kept them out. A fly hack from a dropped ball put Carlisle on the attack, but some real last gasp defending saw Carlisle thwarted, until an indiscretion at a ruck in front of the posts gave Carlisle an easy chance to make it 3 points to 0. Again kendal came back on the attack, and this time a penalty put into touch saw collinson find Leacock, and the Kendal maul drove towards the opposition line, only for it to be brought down very near the tryline. After a small wrestle for the ball on the floor, the ref awarded a try, pointing in comedy relic (the lads took pity on him!) Perie's direction.....and as we all know he'll take any amount of pity.....5 - 3 Kendal after the awkward kick was just missed.
This then saw what could only be described as a pattern develop in the game. When Carlisle attacked, and made a break, all their passes stuck in hands, and when Kendal did the same, theirs did not. A few away side tries, saw the half time score being 26 - 5 to the visitors. Kendal came back to dominate the first 25 minutes of the second half, but again the final pass when looking dangerous went to ground, or an opponent to often, to stop any potentional scores. But on the other hand resolute defence from captain Greenwood, Cox, Collinson, Pashley, and the Carlisle scrum half became very well aquainted with Mr Leacock around the sides of the rucks also! But the visitors managed to stop the run of play, and some quality rugby saw them run in 2 more tries.
The final 6 minutes saw Kendal continue to show some pride in their play, and throw everything at the defensive line, but both Collinson and Leacock were held up over the line to stop them scoring, so the game finished a disapointing 38 - 5 defeat. Again there are many positives to take from this though, not only in personal preformance, but also in terms of spirit, and being positive to the end, showing that brighter times are round the corner for this young side.
Big thanks also go out to Joe, who retrieved many of the balls booted into Heinz, Dan Beef for water carrying/ last 10 mins of touch judging, and also club stallwart "Piggy" who managed through quick thinking to save the game from a potentional health and safety disaster!
