Better, Better, Better! Man of Match is Toby Knowles

Kendal Development XV 32 Millom 1st XV 25

After the heroics of the week before, and the steady improvement shown, Kendal were to host Millom 1st XV, at the ever welcoming Mint Bridge. Without a bus journey to get lost on, a changed Kendal outfit without the likes of Tommy Whitehead (get well soon!), and Jake Broomhead, but with returning Dan Greenwood, Josh Chaplow and skippered by Chris Park set off in their usual charitable manner, and Millom's dangerous backline created a overlap for the winger to score.
Kendal created some good ball themselves and an infringement saw captain ChrisPark pulled the score back to 5 - 3. This is where I'm a bit vague dear reader, on the comings and goings of the half, as the massive Millom number 8, and their powerful scrum, kept breaking the gainline, only to be repelled by some excellent cover defence.

Millom scored another couple of tries, but Kendal managed to stay in the game with a try from Alex Wilson, converted by Park.
The second half saw the Kendal xv played in to the correct areas of the pitch, with the forwards manfully getting to grips with their larger conterparts. This is where a new maturity has been found,
Iin other words they are now able to find an extra gear, when they have been unsuccessful at times. This was helped by a returning Brett Ashley in the centre, after a long absence.
Tries from Dan Wilson, Brett Ashley and A.N Other (please excuse me, I was a bit busy in raptures at some of the play), as well as some kicks from Park, put Kendal over the winning line, before Millom scored a consolation try in the corner, with the last play of the game.
Again this is a leap forward for these young players, with all 18 excelling, but the moment of the game was in the second half, when wing man Toby Knowles, introduced himself to the opposition full back with a tackle of epic proportions!!
It was difficult to separate Knowles, and his wing partner, Dan Wilson for the award.
So the Man of the Match was shared, but every week it becomes more difficult to separate players from the all round great performances that are on show from many of the lads
With yet more players coming back to challenge for places, these are exciting times for the development squad. If this continues to improve to develop there are, exciting times ahead for the club.
