“Brooke Edgley Technical Services Trophy" Kendal development XV 29 v10 Glossop 2nds

Definitely a game of two halves

The Development Team were coasting at 29v5 up at half time, having played into the wind in the first half, but they saw very little of the ball in the second half, never getting into the Glossop twenty two, but a strong defensive performance, against a much larger pack, kept the score to 0v5, for an aggregate 29v10 win.

Kendal opened their account after just three minutes, after a Mark Carruthers break, set up a score for right wing Dan Wilson 5v0.

Five minutes later the lead was doubled, as the forwards rumbled over from a lineout, for Blake Robinson to touchdown 10v0

Glossop came back into the game, and Kendal had to concentrate on defence for the next quarter of an hour, but after twenty five minutes Kendal had a third try as Nathan Woof drifted through a gap to power home for the try. 15v0

With the Glossop pack gaining the ascendency in the scrum, Kendal brought on Dan Reid in the front row.

Glossop finally had their reward after half an hour, when a prop went over for their first try. 15v5

Kendal quickly struck back with their fourth try. Dan Reid may have been brought in to improve the scrum, but it was his work as a crash ball centre that set up the score. He powered through the middle, and when he was stopped the ball was moved left, where a deft pass from Blake Robinson, put left wing Nick Carlton in for the score, with fullback Benji Platt adding the conversion 22v5.

At the end of the half Kendal added a fifth try. Deep in their own half, Alistair Thompson broke the defence and found Mark Carruthers in support, to go in for try, Benji Platt again converted 29v5.

At half time Dan Wilson was replaced by Tony Bingham, and shortly afterwards Alistair Thompson was replaced by Anthony Gage.

Most of the half was played out in the Kendal twenty two at the club house end, with Kendal having to withstand wave after wave of Glossop attacks, but the Kendal defence conceded just one try, after a quarter of an hour. 29v10, and held out for the win.
