Our last visit to Wilmslow was not a happy one. Needing a win to maintain a chance of retaining our North Premier status we led 0v17 and 15v34, before conceding 20 unanswered points to go down to a late penalty, and a one point loss, to a team that joined us in the drop. It made no difference as Lymm won that afternoon to seal their safety, and we then lost heavily to Ilkley at Mint Bridge following week.
Wilmslow started this season with a big home win against Bowden, but have since struggled with their only other points coming in a narrow win at Carlisle, their losses have come at home to Altrincham Kersal and Glossop and away at Manchester and last weekend at Waterloo.
Last weekend showed you can take no one lightly in this league
TEAM : Mixed news, Matt Houghton and Steven Nelson are back, but James Gough, Reece Tomlinson and Chris Park are out, whilst Hugh Davies and Danny Barker are also still missing. Tom Moulton and Dane Blenkharn retain their places, with last week’s Man of the Match Greg Wrathall moving to the second row and Steven Nelson playing at No.8, with Ross McKay moving to the bench. Jordan Johnson comes in at scrum half, and Dan Lowther at fullback. The other two spots on the bench are again taken by Alistair Thompson and Chris Evans.
Of the team from the last game at Wilmslow, only Glen Weightman and Dan Shorrock start in the same positions, Mark Carruthers moves from 13 to 12, and Steven Nelson from 5 to 8. Alistair Thompson and Chris Evans started that game, whilst Robbie Collinson was on the bench. The only other player involved that afternoon, who has played this season is Danny Barker.
WEATHER : Looks as if it should be dry
Please note this comes from the MetOffice, so if like last week it is not accurate; please take it up with them – It was right about the game when it stayed dry.
MINT BRIDGE : For those unable to travel, Wilmslow Seconds come to Mint Bridge on Saturday, Kick off at 3.00pm
Unfortunately the Wasps opening home game of the season on Sunday against York Ladies is CANCELLED
