An interview with Steve Whitehead, Kendal R.U.F.C. Director of Rugby yielded the following update for all things Kendal Rugby!

Incoming player alert!
As usual, the summer months see players swap clubs as they seek to improve their skills and challenge themselves in different clubs and leagues. Here's eight of the 'movers and shakers' heading to Kendal for the 2018/19 season:

Forwards:
Prop - Mark Irving (Fylde, Aspatria, Ballymena (Northern Ireland), Petrarca Rugby (Italy), Benetton Treviso (Italy), Viadana (Italy), Tynedale, Newcastle Falcons, Preston Grasshoppers)
Second Row - Liam Ridley (Aspatria)
Back Row - Steve Nelson (St. Benedicts)
Back Row - Kirk Chettleburgh (New Zealand)

Backs:
Scrum-Half - Alex Pantechis (Penrith, Manchester Metropolitan University)
Fly-half - Myles Harrop (Wigan St. Patricks, Sedbergh School, Halifax Elite Rugby Academy)
Fly-Half - Harry Hampsey (Sedbergh School)
Fly-Half - Nathan McCloy (New Zealand)

Head Coach
Head Coach Tom Borthwick has been leading the pre-season training programme and is settling in extremely well. Players are adapting well to the reorganised structure of play, with merits observed from many free-flowing opportunities created at last Saturday's excellent joint training session with Carlisle R.U.F.C. at Warwick Road.

Social Media
The club has an incredible social media following for which we are very grateful (over 2,500 on facebook alone!)
This medium is without doubt the easiest and quickest way to catch up on everything club-related and we invite everyone to join in the banter and snap up the breaking news by choosing to 'like', or 'follow' us on our facebook, twitter and instagram accounts, simply by searching Kendal Rugby, or using the facebook and instagram tag /kendalrugby, or @kendalRUFC on twitter :)

Grass Pitch
It was the best of summers, it was the worst of summers…
Holding up really well as a top class winter surface and despite displaying several shades of brown for much of the summer, the pitch has benefitted immensely from the recent rain and has even needed regular cutting! Even though it’s looking quite lush, a re-seeding and regeneration programme is scheduled to commence after the Status Quo concert on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Injury Update
Returning from injury to full training are Liam Hayton and Zane Butler. Neither player underwent surgery and are both back to full strength in pre-season. Damian Armstrong is anticipated to return around Christmas time.

League Update
Trading places with 'Hoppers in North Premier is BLAYDON from the north east. They are an unknown quantity to Kendal, but are expected to be a strong, well-drilled unit, as observed with previous teams who have arrived via demotion into our league.

Local rivals VALE OF LUNE gained promotion, have recruited well this summer and are expected to play a fast flowing style of rugby we know they like to play. Kendal looks forward to both home and away fixtures with a club that our club plays at all levels, from minis to vets!

Another new club to Kendal is promoted ALNWICK which also hails from the north east. Alnwick managed to secure promotion at the expense of Penrith in last season's play-offs. Penrith's assessment is that they have dominant forwards, so our games this season should be belters!

Last, but by no means least is promoted WILMSLOW. An excellent club led by Mike Blackett and Rick Jones. They are strong over the ball and fast-paced in the loose. We look forward to renewing old friendships at these fixtures.
