Here's a Q&A Session with new season Wasps signing Sophie. Looking forward to the first Sunday when the Wasps can start their season!

1. Name/Nickname and age? – Sophie Martin/Soph, Age - 27
2. Height and 'fighting' weight? - Height - 5’4, Weight - 80kg ish
3. Nationality / Place of birth? - British / Dhekelia, Cyprus
4. Schools, colleges, universities attended? - Windermere St Anne’s School, Abingdon and Witney College, University of Plymouth
5. Career? – Qualified Veterinary Care Assistant
6. When did you first start playing rugby? - Attended my first session when I was 17, just before the end of season and then played my first game when I was 18, with the women’s team
7. Player that’s inspired you to play rugby when you were younger? - I first wanted to try rugby at school as my brother played, but there wasn’t any opportunity for girls to play at that time. I think he inspired me and also my Mum watches a lot of sports and we watched rugby together. She explained what was going on, and I fell in love with the game!
8. What made you sign for Kendal? - Before we relocated, we had a look at the local clubs and felt Kendal’s club culture was something we wanted to be part of and the facilities are great!
9. Previous clubs and positions played? - Witney RFC, Oxon RFU, University of Plymouth, Plymstock Albion Oaks, Devon RFU, Cottesloe RFC, Greenock Wanderers RFC | Primary position is Hooker, although have played Blindside flanker, Front 8 and even Centre!
10. How have you kept active during lockdown? - Home work outs and Running
11. The best player you’ve played with? - Natasha Haines (Aus) - She is a great athlete with a brilliant attitude. I learnt a lot playing alongside her and she’s a great friend too
12. Most memorable game you've been involved in, and why? - playing the semi-final match against West’s that took us to Silver Saturday. Was so proud of the work put in by all the girls. It was a tight match right till the final whistle. Each and every woman on that pitch stepped up and gave it all
13. What would success look like for you next season? - Obviously you want to win, but I’m hoping to spend time building as a team and having a great season
14. Have you got any personal goals you want achieve whilst playing? - Develop fine skills, improve fitness and make some friends
15. Highest rugby honour achieved, and/or most prestigious league played in? - Being voted in as Captain for Plymouth University was really special, as well as the awards received at the end of the year
16. Try scorer, workhorse, or both? - Workhorse
17. Favourite team (not your club)? - Because of my Mum I enjoy watching most teams play as long as it’s a good game! I enjoy watching the back rows work though
18. How has Covid-19 affected your family and your job? - Whilst working up in Scotland, partner Hugh (Davies) and I were both classed as key workers. My work hours changed, so we saw each other less which was strange. It’s been hard not seeing my mum, or even being able to visit her as she lives on an island. Like most people, our plans to visit family abroad were cancelled. We are just keeping our chins up and moving forward
