Rugby not likely to start in September

The RFU has published its latest update reviewing the progress towards match play. At present we remain at Stage B (socially-distanced, non-contact training in a maximum group of 6) and have to reach Stage F for competitive League rugby. There will be four weeks between the resumption of full contact training (Stage E) and match play, so it is clear that League rugby will not start in September.
Unless there is a dramatic improvement in the prevalence of Covid, the next announcement will be on 1st September. Fixtures recently published will be revised and we shall issue them as soon as available.
In the meantime the RFU has sent an action plan to the Government for approval. In summary it proposes 10-a-side touch rugby as the starting point, initially within Clubs and, if satisfactory, will be extended to inter-Club activity. If successful there will be a gradual increase in contact and reduction in social distancing to allow more 'normal' rugby.
In the light of recent restrictions in certain parts of the country, this all seems a long way off and presents the Club with difficulties in planning for a resumption of play.
We are working hard to open the Club within the Covid guidelines.
The gym is now operating a booking system (call the club on 01539 734039) between 8am and 8pm Monday-Friday and our No 8 servery is open 4pm to 8pm weekdays and from 9am on Sunday mornings, although it may be open earlier throughout August due to on-site camping.
Subject to Covid restrictions, we are able to offer bookings of our social spaces so please contact the Club to discuss your requirements.
Kind regards, Stephen Green
