Rhys Studt - a pen portrait of the lad from Furness

Rhys joined Kendal at the beginning of this season

Rhys Studt - Open Side Flanker , aged 21

born 9th April, 1993
weight : 93k.
height: 6' 1"
Rhys is an enthusiastic newcomer to the club who signed from Furness at the beginning of the season. He has always wanted to play at a higher level of rugby union. He was seen at the end of last season playing for Furness against Egremont in the Cumbria Cup Final. Furness won comfortably, and Rhys scored two tries, to add to the 27 he had already scored last season. This is a great record for a flanker, and proves that Rhys has a lot of pace and an eye for an opening for a forward.
He has been a member at Furness almost all his life, having first started playing rugby union when he was about six years old.
In his teenage years, when he attended Parkview Secondary School in Barrow, he has represented the county at rugby union cricket and football , and captaining Furness when he reached their Colts XV.
At school, his favourite subjects were Maths and Science, so it was no surprise when he applied for a job, like many others, with BAE Systems in Barrow, as a Nuclear Trainee, and he is starting work shortly on a four year course in Mechanical Engineering.
Coming back to his rugby, his goal has always been to play at a higher level.
I am sure you will agree that Kendal is an ideal club for him to achieve this goal!
Rhys is really enjoying the step up in standards at Kendal, the intensity of coaching from Steve Whitehead and his colleagues, and the help he has received from experienced forwards like Liam, Richard and Duncan.
He realises he has only just started, and he still has a long way to go, but he has certainly made an excellent start to his career with the Black & Ambers.
As you more experienced members will recall, not so long ago Kendal were in the top 16 clubs in the country. Peter Kremer is always regarded as the best coach this club has ever had. With Steve Whitehead's leadership it is possible that those days could return, and Rhys is strong enough and young enough to be part of it, and has lots of rugby ability.
