Arthur Edwards
Arthur Edwards, a former secretary and player has recently passed away. Arthur was a proud Welshman who moved to Kendal late in his playing career from Clifton Rugby Club in the 70s. He soon became involved in the committee and became a highly successful secretary. He started our weekly club lottery which funded much of the expenses related to running 4 senior sides at that time. He was a useful fullback and outside back but he had a real penchant for organising tours and club trips. Some trips involved tickets to venues to see Max Boyce where us Northern Englishmen would pay for the pleasure of being verbally abused by the Welsh Comedian, with jokes like - "My dog comes with me to all the Welsh games and does a somersault everytime Wales score a try" - " Well what does he do when England score one?" - "I don't know, I've only had him 10 years". Arthur loved organising those trips. He moved down to Penzance with work and so had to finish with Kendal but he stayed involved with Rugby and we had the pleasure of meeting him when we played Penzance and Newlyn in the National League. When he retired he moved back up here to be near his family and he was regularly seen at our home matches supporting our teams.
A good Welsh Rugby Man.
RIP Arthur
Keith Baker
Keith Baker, was a strong, stocky winger with fast feet, who played throughout the 60s and early 70s. He earned his badge in 1961 and represented the first team over 100 times. He married his wife, Margaret and they were regular supporters at social events held at the club. Keith took up bowls later in life, playing at Netherfield Bowling Club alongside other ex-Kendal Rugby Players.
RIP Keith
