An entertaining game in the last rugby at Mint Bridge for some time

The Wasps were short of a few regulars in their back division, and in a change to the selected team, Hayley Hodgson moved from fullback to centre in place of Kate Birchall, with Allysia May going to fullback, and after earlier in the season several backs appearing in the back row, this time Aimee Sharp moved onto the left wing. Rowan Boardley played outside half.

The game was played on the 3G pitch.

The Wasps opened the scoring after two minutes. Hartlepool Rovers lost the ball at their scrum in the twenty two, and Susie Winter burst away to score. Tamar Benson added the conversion 7v0.

The lead was extended after eleven minutes, when one of the more recent additions to the team Miriam Fuller, made a good run to score. 12v0.

Whilst the Wasps were dominating, Hartlepool showed that they were in the game, when after twenty minutes the Wasps lost the ball near halfway, and there was a good run down the right wing to open the visitors scoring. 12v5.

Five minutes later the Wasps extended their lead. From a scrum in the twenty two, the ball came out to Tamar Benson, who got the ball to Hayley Hodgson on the move, and there was no stopping her as she burst through to score, with Benson adding the conversion. 19v5

Another long run from near halfway resulted in a second try for Hartlepool Rovers. 19v10.

With five minutes of the half to play Hayley Hodgson added a second, with a run from near halfway. Tamar Benson added the conversion. 26v10

In injury time the Wasps added a fifth try. From a scrum the ball came to Hayley Hodgson, who found Rowan Boardley, and despite having Allysia May in support, did not need her, and went through to score. 31v10 at half time.

The Wasps opened the second half scoring after five minutes. A good run by Rowan Boardley was finished off by Susie Winter for her second try. 36v10.

Susie Winter then turned provider for the next try three minutes later. She stole the ball after a Hartlepool player was tackled, and got it away to Hayley Hodgson to power in for the try. 41v10

Hayley Hodgson added her fourth try with a weaving run ten minutes later 46v10.

That was the last Wasps score, with Hartlepool Rovers having the better of the final twenty minutes as the Wasps re-jigged their team.

With quarter of an hour to play Hartlepool pulled a score back with a run from halfway by their centre for their only converted try. 46v17

The Wasps had to withstand a long period of pressure and showed their defensive abilities, with Tamar Benson putting in a number of crunching tackles.

With five minutes to play Hartlepool added a fourth try for a final score of 46v22.

A much better performance from the forwards, whilst behind the scrum Rowan Boardley had a good game at outside half, in a position the Wasps have found difficult to fill in the absence of Lauren Harkness.
