U14s get back on track and turn a corner in defeat.

Positives in defeat.

The U14s took to the field with what would be their hardest test of the season, against a notoriously organised Fylde side. Back to back heavy defeats would have been on the minds of parents but not the lads with recent improvements in training as they turned a corner in defeat on a rare sunny day at mint bridge.

Recent performances have left the coaches scratching their heads with a positive season up until that point and the coaches ringed the changes to recent sessions and there has been a fantastic response on the training ground and this showed in defeat today against Fylde.

Fylde started the first half the better of the two sides, using their forwards well to make constant ground over the Kendal gain line. They scored three quick try’s in side 13 minutes the latter being an interception from the Kendal back line looking to force a pass into space. 0-19 to the visitors.

After this was when we saw the U14s really come to the party with constant turn overs, and some great phases of play.
Kendal really moved the ball about well getting lots of territory down on the Fylde line but were just missing that final pass to get the try.

Kendals first try came from a solid scrum from the forwards and a even greater pick up from Kendal’s number 8 Zack who used his welsh roots and channeled his inner Ryan Jones to weave through defenders and grab Kendal’s first try (no conv) 5-19
From this we saw a lot of Kendal ball down in Fyldes half with just that final pass still not sticking for the lads as they pushed for another try. On the half we saw a Fylde try (no conv) 5-24

Half time, and rightly so still positive in the Kendal camp. With the captains words ringing in their ears Kendal finally had a great start to a second half. Ben G danced his way through the line from half way and with good support on the shoulder Kendal got one back straight away through Connor (no conv) 10-24.

After this Fylde really took control of the game putting some great moves together in the back line and using their forwards well to lay a platform for the backs. We saw 3 unanswered try’s from our visitors, 10-43.
Kendal showed fight, spirit and intensity throughout the game something that has been missing from the U14s in the last couple of months and it was great to see it back throughout the team.
Kendal got a late try again from Zack 15-43

Final score 15-43.

As a team all season Fylde have only conceded 5 points. A proud positive in a nice turnaround for the u14s.
Something for the u14s to build on going into the next game against Millom on the 17/3
