U9s Training

On a day when we were joined by our friends from Upper Eden for a combined training session; a fantastic morning's training was had by all this Sunday, thanks in a large part to the excellent new initiative introduced by the Director of Rugby, Steve Whitehead, where first team coaches and players are utilised to deliver some expert coaching sessions to the mini and junior teams.
This not only benefits the players but also the volunteer coaches as well.
Certainly the enthusiasm shown by our Under 9s and the enjoyment they got out of the session was abundantly evident and certainly shows just what a success this idea was.
The Under 9 age grade rugby is a key transitional stage, where contact through tackling is introduced for the first time. This Sunday's session was almost predominantly taken up with the introduction to tackling and thanks to our first team coaches and players, by the end of the session our young hornets were really getting stuck in. We had a very eager bunch of kids who were keen to impress our first team players and so took all of the instruction on board, and displayed some excellent and committed tackling during the session's final game.

I'm sure our players and coaches will be looking on in envy when the initiative is repeated for one of the other age groups!
