Trading Report, Sunday 7th January 2018

After the late cancellation of our planned game against Vale of Lune, which left a few of our game hungry kids a little disappointed, it was great to see the enthusiasm and effort they put into this weekend’s trg session.

Knowing how keen they were to play, after a quick warm up and some ball handling skills we got the squad straight into a game amongst themselves, looking to see how their tackling and teamwork had improved (or perhaps declined over the festive period!). Thankfully they didn’t disappoint, and there was a clear and obvious improvement in their commitment to the tackle.

We now have a squad full of talented kids, and so the teams were evenly matched which helped to create a game where good defence was needed and there was no shortage of robust tackles from both teams.

As an aside from the game, we ran a mini skills session aimed at getting our players to think about passing before the tackle and running into space. It’s a session we’ve run a few times before with limited success, so it was particularly pleasing to see a notable improvement in this drill as well.

With another training day planned for next Sunday, we should be in a great position when we finally (hopefully) get to play our next game against Fylde.

Player of the week this Sunday went to Alex Kelso, who showed great appreciation of passing before the tackle and understanding space, as well as great commitment to dust himself off after a bloody nose, to carry on as if nothing had happened.
