Trg Report: Sun 14th January 2018

This weekend’s session concentrated on getting our squad prepared for next week’s game against Fylde, which will be their first for quite some time. So emphasis was placed on gameplay, with two separate skills session aimed at quick passing and moving the ball quickly from the tackle area into space and at speed.
All of our players showed that they’re really keen for their next fixture, by getting stuck into the game amongst themselves and committing to the tackle.
In fact the commitment across the whole team when it comes to the tackle can’t be questioned, we just need to continue to improve the technique and get the tackle point lower.
So kids; remember our tackle sayings: “cheek to cheek”, or “eyes to thighs”, and get your shoulders in nice and low.
It was good to see our newest member Tom already showing improvement; scoring his first try and putting in some good tackles.

The first part of the skills session took some getting used to, but it was pleasing to see the improvement made as they all got the chance to run through it several times, and towards the end of the session there was hardly any dropped balls.
There was also a rapid improvement made with the second part of the skills session, with those that communicated the best displaying the best drills, so well done Alfie, Harrison, Ben and Tyler.

Player of week this weekend went to Caleb Airey; who showed great consistency in defence and attack, and showing good understanding of the skills session with some really committed work on the pads. He was pushed very close by his cousin Blake who was excellent at spotting space and communicating that to his team, as well as showing good handling in the skills session.

Good luck to all our squad who make the trip to Fylde next weekend. Last year we played on a bitterly cold morning, but were very well hosted and this year’s fixture promises much of the same.
