A wet but successful Sunday morning

Having performed well and learnt a lot from teams outside of Cumbria at last weekend’s Sedbergh festival, the Kendal U10s had the chance to show their further development when they played Vale of Lune this weekend.
On a wet Sunday morning, it was really pleasing to see our U10s continue to improve in their understanding of passing the ball into space and they certainly didn’t let the slippery conditions prevent them from getting some good offloads out of the tackle area, which allowed our quicker players the time and space to make good ground forward.
After speaking to previous coaches who have made the transition from U9s to U10s and the introduction of the ruck that’s involved with that, it’s clear that it takes a long time for our young rugby players to get to grips with that particular skill. Our team are no different, but the improvement they are making each week is very positive; Leo M, Alfie T, Kurt C, Tristan J, Tyler B and Daniel D were all really quick to get stuck into the ruck on Sunday. This allowed the likes of Carla G, William O, Logan T & Jake B to make plenty of strong runs.
Confidence within the squad and each other is definitely growing now, and so the workload is spread much more evenly amongst the team, and a lot of Kendal’s tries were the result of good tackling by Jayden C, William M, Jacob B & Tom D and good metres made by Rory B, Harry M & Harrison A.
The first player of the week went to Alfie T for very consistently good performances each week, and in particular this week where he followed up some great rucking with some mazy runs for some well deserved tries. The second player of the week went to Daniel D who responded very well to advice from the coaches and his strong direct running then started to make lots of good yards for his team; well done to both of you. Also well done and a massive thank you to all the parents for braving the weather and supporting the kids and making it possible for them to enjoy another successful weekend and games at the club.
