The Wasps made the long journey to Sheffield looking to maintain their unbeaten start in the new league campaign. This was the fourth away game in a row against a tough Sheffield side.
Kendal were quick out of the blocks, Vanessa Temple scoring the games first try after only 30 seconds of play! The first half was played at a high pace with both teams looking to attack from deep. Kendal remained on top and Temple added her second try of the game after good work from the Kendal forwards. Both tries converted by Abby Bland. The game then entered a spell with both defences on top and plenty of unforced errors from both sides in the heavy rain. Kendal looked to regather control of the game and Abby Bland kicked a penalty to put the Wasps further ahead.
Just before half time, the Wasps scored their third try when Hayley Hodgson powered over from close range after great work from the forwards and backs created space out wide. This brought the half time score to 22 nil.
The Wasps really looked to step up in the second half were very composed throughout, controlling the second half. Nessa Temple added three second half tries, her quick thinking causing panic in the Sheffield defence throughout the game! Bland converted two of the tries as the score reached 43 nil with ten minutes to play. Sheffield's tackling and defence remained strong and they added the games final try with an excellent run from their full back. The Wasps were disappointed to concede late on but could be satisfied with another excellent, hard fought win. Emma Rowlinson was awarded forward of the match and Fleur Stanton back of the match in a game where every single player worked hard for the team.
