In their first home game of the season, the Wasps certainly put on a show for the large crowd that gathered at Mint bridge on Sunday.
From the very first whistle Kendal controlled the game and coped with anything defensively that Altrincham had to offer in attack.
Hayley Hodgson opened the scoring and for a period Kendal were looking to score on every play, this resulted in several errors and frustration for the home side. Once Kendal settled down, then the tries started to flow. Rachelle Malette scored the first forwards try of the season from a textbook catch and drive. Vanessa Temple was her usual self with some fantastic running lines and she ended the game with six tries. Hayley Hodgson ended the game with a hat trick and further tries were added by Tanya Bushell, Bryoni Bland and Aimee Sharp. Abby Bland converted seven of the 13 tries scored.
For periods in the game the Wasps were simply unplayable, with the forwards providing the platform for the backs to make ground whenever the ball was moved wide. Credit must go to Altrincham who never gave up and certainly didn't make it easy for the Wasps.
Aimee Sharp was named forward of the match after a hard working performance and Natalie Threlfall was named back of the match, impressing on the wing in an enthusiastic display.
Despite a record score, he Wasps will look to improve and cut out the mistakes when they travel to Manchester on Sunday looking to maintain a very impressive unbeaten start to the season.
