Wasps win against Manchester

The wasps turned out for a battle against Manchester on a very miserable, wet and wild Easter Sunday.
From kick off the howling weather did not put the girls off and the strong running and close passes came together from the start. The forwards all worked together keeping the ball tight creating spaces to then pass out wide where it reached Hayley Hodgson who was able to build up speed and crash her way to the try line. This was to be the first of a few visits to the posts for her in this game. The wasps then reset and replayed the same again, keeping the ball together tight from the wind and with great running from Sarah Wilkinson, the ball again found its way to Hayley Hodgson’s hand and to the line.
This gave Manchester a bit of a boost and with some quick play they found space and managed to work their way through to put points on the board for an unconverted try.
As the rain stopped and the sun tried to appear this helped the wasps up their game and another 4 tries came from Hayley Hodgson with the ball going through hands from one side of the pitch to the other. One of these was converted by Emma Chadwick in a tough battle with the wind.
The remainder of the game was a strong battle of the forwards, lots of great scrums, mauls and crash balls saw Kerry Procter working hard to get the next try of the game, not long followed by Rachelle Malette who after a great run through a number of players, grounded the ball for the final time.
The game ended with a great score of 42-5 and Amber Kershaw was awarded forward of the match with some great play in her first ever game for the wasps, and Emma Chadwick was awarded back of the match, with her hard work at 10. The Wasps are now back at the top of their league table and face another tough game next Sunday at home against Darlington who are just 2 points behind.
