Not the start to the season the Wasps would have hoped for with defeat to newly promoted Halifax.

A new look Wasps squad with a lot of new faces, whilst a number of previous regulars are not currently available for selection.

The Wasps started well, but Halifax soon came into the game and dominated the first half making few mistakes in attack and defending well to stop the Wasps getting out of their half.

The Wasps defence held firm, with Sarah Wilkinson and Clare Geldard, putting in a number of important tackles.

Finally a few missed tackles allow Halifax centre Rachel Cornyn-Dale to break away to score, with outside half Lucy Cochrane adding the conversion 0V7.

This was the score at half time, when the Wasps rotated their team, with Allysia Hine coming on at outside half and Hayley Hodgson on the wing, with Sophie Postlethwaite going to full back.

Halifax stayed on top, giving the Wasps few chances.

A second Halifax try came after twenty minutes following a powerful run by centre Rachel Cornyn-Dale .

Midway through the half Claire Geldard, who started at scrum half swapped places with Lorne Mellonie in the centre.

With ten minutes to play the lead was extended with a third try this time scored by wing Franchesca Sacco.

As the game came to an end the Wasps had their best spell and with the final action it looked as if they may have a consolation score, but the ball was held up.

Plenty to work on, but the team will gel as they work more together.

Probably pick of the newcomers was Alice Kenyon who made a number of good breaks from the centre. Good contributions from all the regulars, but too often players with the ball lacked support, which meant slow ball when the ball carrier was stopped.
