Kendal had to weather a long spell of early pressure, as Darlington were strong at the set pieces, cutting off any Kendal ball.
Darlington took the lead after ten minutes when their scrum drove over for the first try 0v5.
They doubled the lead ten minutes later, after another spell of pressure, when the ball was moved to the right wing for a try out wide 0v10.
Five minutes later Kendal showed what they could do if they could get hold of the ball. A good break from No.12, was continued by Hayley Hodgson, and when she was stopped she did well to get a pass away, which was gathered by fullback Chelsea Clarkson who went through to score under the posts with Hayley Hodgson adding the conversion. 7v10.
This remained the score at half time.
Kendal started the second half well and were rewarded with a try. After Darlington had put pressure on a Kendal scrum, when awarded a scrum of their own, they lost the ball, and Kendal’s No.8 picked up and scored after a strong run to the line, to give Kendal the lead for the first time. 12v10
The good work was immediately undone with a handling error from the kick off, and Darlington stayed on the attack and five minutes later their centre went over for the try, which was converted to restore their lead 12v17
Darlington extended their lead five minutes later with a fourth try 12v22.
Kendal continue to press, but the strong Darlington pack did well to disrupted ball at the breakdown, and their backs were putting some good passing moves together to stretch the Kendal defence. The Darlington defence were tackling well to made sure Kendal could not gain any momentum
It looked as if Kendal had pulled a try back after a good run by No.12 (?) but after initially awarding the try, the referee correctly pulled back play for a foot in touch on the corner flag, before the ball had been grounded.
Darlington added two further tries for a 12v32 win, the final one being a second drive over from a scrum.
Both teams were disrupted by a number of injuries during the game.
