A nervous week for the Kendal Colts, as visitors Macclesfield awaited numbers to see if the game could go ahead, thankfully by Friday the game was never in doubt. The Colts buoyed by last week’s win were keen to build up on the previous performance and were quickly 0-7 down much to the confusion of the coaching team. This was probably as good as it was going to get for Macclesfield. Jack Johnson Murphy going over for his first of the season, 5-7.
After a spell of midfield action Luke Cuthbertson went over the try line after an initial break from Roan Saunders, 10-7. The visitors struggled to cope with the pace of the Kendal back line and the power of Kendal’s forward pack. Liam Barr was next over the line, and when a successful kick by Jake Bowman took the score to 17-7, Macclesfield then converting a penalty to bring it back to 17-10. The visitors then failed to score any points for rest of the game, as it became all one-way traffic.
Kendal were given a penalty kick which Jake Bowman converted to make it 20-10, and then after some quick play from Iestyn Morgan from the scrum base, his offload before the line saw Luke Cuthbertson score his second of the day. Again, Jake Bowman converted. The Kendal full back was then amongst the tries himself and quickly converted his own try. Fittingly, man of the match Isa Muschamp who Macclesfield had no answer for, then went over the line, there was no stopping him that close to the line, sadly conversion missed this time. Score 39-10. Ethan Davies then went over after a break, and just when he was about to be held up, Matthew Capstick helped barge his teammate over the line, 44-10. As the game began to open up Caleb Airey scored his first of the game, showing how his pace will be an asset for the season, kick converted by Bowman, 51-10. Centre partner Liam Barr then scored a trademark try, again with fantastic pace, 56-10, Bowman conversion, 58-10.
The final action of the afternoon saw Caleb Airey score his second just as the referee blew his whistle. A great start to the season for the Colts.
