From Doug Coates

On a cold but clear day on the east coast it was time for Kendal to confront the league leaders on their own pitch after a 24points to seven defeat at home earlier in the season.

After a long journey over the Pennines we were told that Steven Nelson had to withdraw due to illness and Rob Quarry had been drafted into the second row and John Dervey would start at loose forward. Mark Carruthers and Dan Wilson were the two substitutes.

With a crowd of only about sixty supporters including half a dozen die-hards who had travelled from coast to coast (almost) we kicked off hoping to subdue the opposition as long as possible but after only three minutes their powerful winger Stephen Hihetah caught the ball in his own 22 and ran almost the full length of the field before passing to his other winger who knocked on as he reached the try line.

However this big side, from front row to fullback were to prove very difficult to stop and had achieved their bonus point with four converted tries within the first half hour. By half time Nick Carlton had to be replaced due to head injury and the score was 49-0.

Robbie Collinson was withdrawn at half time due to injury with Billy Coxon moving to hooker and Mark Carruthers joining the back row, John Dervey moving to second row and Dan Wilson coming in on the wing. Almost immediately after half time Zane Butler had to leave the field and we were left with fourteen men to face the almost perpetual onslaught and their try count rose to ten converted ties and 70-0 before their stand- off Simon Humberstone missed a kick.

Kendal had very little possession but did have a small sustained period of pressure with spirited runs by Dini Noyo and Dan Wilson, in particular, being unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.
Sadly the Hull side continued to apply sustained pressure resulting in two more converted tries to make the final score 89-0.

Although this proved to be a very comprehensive defeat we must now concentrate all our efforts into staying in this league with the crucial game against Lymm coming up in a couple of weeks.

Your KENDAL MAN OF THE MATCH : Dan Wilson
Dan was the overwhelming choice from those who experienced what must have been a difficult afternoon

I wasn't there but a comment from one who was ..
Surely there was no man of the match, the team offered everything they could but just proves the standard of the league and the loss of 3 national league players means as a club we need to build with what we have, play at the level we can play and stick together. Maybe changes at the top but credit to the 17!!!!!! Who travelled hopefully they won’t be to disheartened.
