]KENDAL Development XV 41 Cockermouth 5
[/b]A fresh day weather wise saw the Development squad take on a Cockermouth outfit that had quite simply caused one of the darkest results in recent history on them.
Kendal started in their now customary lively manner, with both forwards and backs looking like they wanted to cross the vistors line, but some handling errors, and some great defence stopped this from happening.
Kendal were first on the board, when Sean Garnett spotted a gap in the visitors' defence, and after a bit of twisting and turning, he managed to ghost his way through untouched to touch down.
This was even more pleasing to the coaching staff, as they were just having a chat about where the gap was. So it meant that they didn't have to waste any words of wisdom too early!
More pressure followed, and an indiscretion in front of the visitors' posts saw John Johnson slot the penalty , This was in front of the usual supporting crowd, who had refused to let the weather get the better of their usual vantage point. What a hardy bunch!
Again Kendal continued to keep their up tempo game, and again hats off to the visitors, who continued to keep going defensively.
A lineout was expertly taken by skipper Rob Wightman, and the black and amber pack rumbled towards the visitors line. Spotting no defence in place, that last bastion of all positions, Den Blenkhorn hot footed it over the line for another great score!
Now Kendal were hitting some real form , and young Dns once again popped up, this time his head causing the ball to ricochet back over the Cockermouth line for Mackereth to happily just dot the ball down,
This was for Kendal to reach half time 22 points to the good.

The second half started with the visitors in all out attack mode, but Kendal time and again vigorously defended their line to repel the foe!
Turn over ball in midfield saw the try king Josh Chaplow beat his man, and sped under the sticks, and 10 minutes later, did exactly the same again! With Johnson adding the conversion in increasingly worsening wind conditions.
Cockermouth were rewarded with a try, when another midfield charge down saw the ball pop up to their winger, with a 15 metre head start just about held on, whilst the retreating glen nearly ran him down!
Kendal finished the game with a score in the final 2 minutes when the returning Thompson showed all his class to turn the defence inside out, and dot the ball down under the posts, whilst at the same time pulling up lame!
Any of the Kendal squad could have taken the man of the match plaudits, for a great team performance, bar. Arthur Perie who quite frankly did nothing, The panel of judges gave it to Jack Lashley playing out of position for his power packed performance.
Next week the development squad go to see their friends at Workington, who are in a tussle for the title., but hopefully the young team will put up another great display, and test their development against the good opposition that they are bound to be!
